Seniors Month
June is Seniors Month and this year’s theme is “Working for Seniors.” Ontario has recognized Seniors’ Month for several years and this year is particularly significant due to the introduction of Bill 70, Seniors Month Act, 2023. This Private Member’s Bill passed second reading with unanimous consent on March 22. If passed, Ontario will be the first jurisdiction in Canada to formalize the recognition of seniors in June each year.
The County of Lambton Long-Term Care Division takes the opportunity every June to celebrate seniors. We strive to provide opportunities for older adults to stay socially connected and engaged in their communities. Whether living in one of our Long-Term Care Homes, participating in one of the Adult Day Programs, working or volunteering with us, the Long-Term Care Division recognizes the contributions of all seniors.
In June each year, the Recreation departments at the Lodge, the Villa, and the Manor, organize various special events and community outings to help recognize and celebrate Seniors Month. We encourage everyone to check our Facebook and Instagram posts during June to see some of the fun and engaging activities going on.
June is also Pride Month in Canada, and we recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion to ensure people of all ages in the 2SLGBTQ+ community feel welcome to live, work, visit, participate or volunteer in the Homes and Adult Day Programs.
