Dining is provided in a Elder centered manner that supports, promotes and respects Elders’ rights, safety, security, comfort, choice, independence and decision-making. Recognizing that quality nutrition, hydration and pleasurable dining enhance the quality of life. Food, beverage and pleasurable dining influence the quality of care. Seasonal menus are planned with creativity, Elder input, and are based on Canada’s Food Guide, with the emphasis on nutritionally balanced meals and snacks that are pleasingly presented.
Recognizing that the ability to feed one self is a basic component of an individual’s feeling of independence. Therefore incorporates a supportive and restorative dining component to maintain, support and /or regain Elders’ independence.
To meet the needs of every Elder, we consider each person holistically including his or her personal nutritional goals, and benefits and risks of medical nutrition therapy. Importance is placed on Elders’ likes and dislikes, as well as their nutritional needs.
