Centenarian couple: Orvie & Naomi
Here at the Villa, we would like to celebrate a couple of the Elders for Seniors Month. Orvie and Naomi both turned 100 years old this year! And they have been married for 74 years. They met when Orvie and his friends were driving around, when they came across Naomi and her friends with their car broke down at the side of the road. Orvie and his friends stopped and gave them a ride. Orvie always said if that car did not break down, he never would have met Naomi.
Orvie was a carpenter, who’s motto was “If someone broke it, we can fix it” which he shared with his family. He could be seen helping family and neighbours on his days off. When Orvie was ready to go home he would say “Looks like Mom wants to go home” when really it was he who wanted to go. Naomi quietly worked hard at home, raising seven children. She was often seen taking a break in her mother’s rocking chair reading her bible. Living the simple life, their faith and enjoying family were most important for Orvie and Naomi.
