How Do I Choose A Long-Term Care Home?
Narrowing down the options for Long-Term Care Homes can seem like a daunting task. Consider what matters most to you, such as: private or shared room, geographic location, amenities, etc. When making the choice to move into Long-Term Care, taking a tour is one of the best ways to see firsthand which Homes are right for you. You can speak with current Elders and staff to help determine if the environment is somewhere you could envision yourself living. If you have any specific needs, speak to staff about what ideas they may be able to suggest accommodating those needs.
As you tour each prospective home, ask yourself the following questions:
- Does this Home and its staff project a warm and welcoming atmosphere to Elders and visitors?
- Does this Home present as odour free, well maintained and nicely furnished, including the outside gardens and grounds?
- Are the bedroom/bathroom accommodations and common areas spacious and well equipped?
- Do the people living in the Home appear well cared for and are they engaged in meaningful activities?
- Are staff attentive to and engaged with the people who live there?
- Will the location work well for family and friends to visit?
To ensure our continued quality of care, we are routinely inspected by the Ministry of Health. To see their latest inspections, you can read the inspection reports here.
We regularly submit quality data so that we can compare ourselves to other Homes in the province. If you would like to see how we compare, just click the link to visit Health Quality Ontario.
Our agreement with OHWEST contains both legal and financial information and is posted in the Home.
